Second Story Gallery Presents
the photography and art of Camas artists
Dave and Beth Norwood
"Spring Rolls" by Beth Norwood
Their work will be displayed during the month of March
in a show titled
“For the Love of Nature”
Both Dave's photographs of birds and Beth's oil landscapes depict not only the artists’ love of the natural world but also the quiet beauty of this region.
Arriving in the Pacific Northwest in 1988, Beth has adopted an eco-friendly approach to oil painting and uses no additives or solvents from start to finish. She grew up in New York state and says she was naturally drawn to study in her own backyard, in her case the Hudson River School artists of the 19th century who painted intimate studies of nature while also depicting its magnitude and grandeur. Beth is a member of both Oil Painters of America and the Portrait Society of America. Her work has been published in International Artist Magazine and has toured with Paint the Parks/Paint America as well as the National Oil and Acrylic Society's 'Best of America' Shows.
"American Gold" by Dave Norwood
Dave says he feels fortunate that he discovered a hobby early in life that he has been able to stick to through retirement. He acquired his first 35 mm camera in the early 60’s but converted his equipment to digital format upon retirement as he turned his hobby into a second career. His business model changed, he notes, after a brief time shooting portraits and events. Now it’s more grandchildren and Steigervwald Lake. “The beauty of the Pacific Northwest continually beckons with landscapes and wildlife to be captured,” he explains. “There is never a lack of subject matter for the camera. It far exceeds the time and light available in a day.”
Both artists travel with cameras to capture that elusive moment, be it for painting reference or finished product. They say he loves the technical side and she, the artistic, so they say they always balance and teach each other. They’ll be on hand to discuss their styles at an
